This rugged moorland walk, high above Hade Edge, includes  magnificent views over the Graveship of Holme and  entertainment along the way. The Graveship of Holme, comprises seven townships, Holme,  Austonley, Upperthong, Wooldale, Fylstone, Hepworth and Cartworth.  

At one time each township had its own constable, but with the  development of the modern police force these have disappeared.  

However, the chief constable role has survived, being charged with  the overview of the whole Graveship and the administration of  various matters including overseeing England’s last active turbary –  a turf and peat digging area – at Cooke’s Study, near Holmfirth. 

Holmfirth’s Jimmy Dickinson, the owner of Longley Farm and  an entrepreneur, is currently the elected  Chief Constable of the Graveship of Holme.
